Advice for Youngin’s

Never. Ever. Never is it appropriate to refer to your boss as a “puppet” … even in jest. Seriously.

I’m not kidding, even if you are just messing around when you are playing the “Imaginiff Board Game“. Just don’t do it.

With that in mind, I had an excellent time with the Keohan Family tonight. Brett and Courtney were in town celebrating Christmas with the folks. Brett and I took a picture next to the christmas tree - which seemed appropriate at the time, yet now seems mildy homo-erotic. I’ll post it and you can decide for yourself. Ha.

December 10th Goals Checksheet

December 10th Goals

  • Check out SandCreek Apartments
  • Duke vs. Texas
  • UK vs. Indiana
  • Implement new features on CarCMS
  • Work on “work” stuff - yes, on the weekend, again
  • Call Brett to see if he wants to hang out during any random point of the day
  • Clean this apartment, ugh.

Tonight I recieved “spyware” on my machine. I was trying to find a “fix” to an office problem and actually ran some code that I shouldn’t have. Even the “pros” do this — obviously. Oh well, Thank you SpyBot S&D. :)

Christmas Presents …

The fires have been extinguished on what might have been the most tedious work-week of my career. I am going to leave the office on this friday feeling completely capable of handling any situation.

I learned a few valuable lessons this week, which are extremely generalized, but might help someone.

One is that sometimes you have to delegate tasks in order to complete things on time.

The second is to not let your pride get in the way of success. I failed to get something complete in time because I refused to tell someone that it wasn’t possible. It was, at the time, an impossible task. I lead them to believe I could magically make it happen. It didn’t.

Never the less, everything did get completed and things are back to normal around here. I’ve mastered C# in 5 days. God.

On other fronts, I’ve decided what I am going to get everyone for Christmas this year. It’s going to be sweet. You guys will be happy! Tonight I am going to try and generate my “online christmas list”. My mom is freaking out because she doesn’t know what to get me. I said “wakeboard stuff” and now she needs examples.

Top Five List - KC Edition

Top Five Things that drive me nuts about Kansas City

  1. The Weather

It is freaking 11 degrees outside right now. The only way I can describe it is skin-numbing cold.
  2. Toboggans

Kentucky folk might know them as Beanies, Tobaggans, or “ski hats” but not a single person in the KC Metro knows what the hell a Toboggan is. Everyone keeps saying “Isn’t that a sled?” — No, it’s a friggin Tobaggan. It fits on your head! *shudder with frustration*
  3. “You have a funny accent!”

Ding! You’re a genius - I’m not from here! Must *EVERYONE* point this out?
  4. Traffic Lights

Let’s eff up the natural flow of traffic for one random car that needs to cross a lane. Ugh! It is still much better than the gridlocks of Nashville and St. Louis. Somewhere, a traffic light vendor has a pretty phat wallet! We have an average of seventy-two lights per square mile!
  5. Missouri Trash vs Kansas Snobbery

The Louisville vs. UK of this great Midwestern city. You can be instantly judged or pass-judgement based on the location of ones home. Judgement is based on what state you live in as well as relation to I-435. Luckily, based on this ruleset, I am better than everyone. ha.

I guess if this is the worst I can think of - I am pretty much happy in Kansas City.

Update
My buddy Squeeks at GhettoC4 has posted an excellent read on determining if a girl has emotional baggage. I could have used this information a few times in my life. No, I’m not talking about you — I swear.

Wowzers - What the?

I randomly just got voicemails - at 7:24am. Who was it? Tim Stark said that Emily won a Mustang Convertible?!? That’s crazy!

Also - Brother Scott Utley is now the father of a precious little girl. Congrats Annie and Scott! You’re going to be great parents.

My friend / partner-in-crime, Matt Palubicki, here at First Horizon, just had a child as well.

Everybodies poppin out kids - I hope I haven’t! hah.

2:41am and leaving work

This weekend hasn’t been real great. I’ve spent a majority of it writing in .aspx code. I just spent the last two hours writing a cfm template that will take data from a database and drop it into a pdf file. Very cool idea, especially for invoicing archival of forms.

If no one hears from me, its because I got knocked in the head leaving the first horizon building at 3am… Let’s hope I can arm the alarm without setting it off! hah.

I’ll see you guys at 7am when I come in to finish up all of the code I couldn’t because of unanswered questions!

Night!

McDonald’s Challenge Ends…

It’s hard to believe it has been a full month without Ronald McDonald and Friends!

I’m a mere 180.2 lbs right now. I don’t have a six-pack by any means, but compared to my previous attempts at losing weight I feel very healthy. My lofty goal of 175lbs is a reality. I am still following the guidelines of “food as an energy source” — but I’ll be honest, I’ve fudged some. I’ve had a few onion peels, a few slices of pizza, a few tootsie roll pops, sugar babies, and some crap that just is not “healthy”. On the same token, I have converted from your standard steak-like red meats to mostly lean chicken when possible. I guess it’s okay to fudge so long as you keep your eyes focused on the goal…

It’s December 4th. I could eat McDonalds tommorrow - but I’m not. I’m going to keep pushing myself to eat healthy and stay away from fast food entirely. I’m learning to rely on proteins and peanut butter! I honestly think that I was on a path to diabetes by 30 at the rate I was going…

I hope my friends faired as well as I! I wish I could say that I would give the 100 dollars to the charites everyone listed - but I’ll be honest, I’m broke and I don’t need to spend the money! :) Sometimes hard-earned cash can be a great catalyst for success!

Morris is ineligible - oh no!

Randolph Morris is ineligible — for now — after an NCAA committee ruled Wednesday that his relationship with an agency during his NBA draft experience last spring was a violation.

Bad times with North Carolina at noon on Saturday!
